1 Corinthians 1:18 says, "for the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but to us who are saved it is the power of God." Colossians 2:14-15 and Isaiah 53:4-5 can also help us understand what we are looking at today.
The cross is the centerpiece of Christianity. Everything in the kingdom of God flows from the cross; without it, there would be no salvation, no forgiveness, no victory over Satan, and ultimately, there would be no access to God.
But the truth is, many believers (especially the youth) know about the cross but have not tapped into its benefits. The cross is not only a historical event, but it is also a spiritual platform of divine advantages. Our Lord Jesus Christ did not only die on the cross so we could be saved; He died so we could live in the fullness of redemption.
The cross was not an accident; it was God’s eternal plan to redeem humanity. The cross represents God's justice, God's love, and God's power. On the cross, three things happened simultaneously: sin was judged, Satan was defeated, and man was redeemed. Colossians 2vs15. The cross was not only a place of suffering, but it is also a place of divine victory.
WHY MANY BELIEVERS ARE NOT ENJOYING THE BENEFITS OF THE CROSS?
- Many do not enjoy the benefits of the cross because they are ignorant of redemption (Hosea 4:6). Many believers are saved but do not know what the cross has provided.
- Another reason many believers do not enjoy the benefits of the cross is their failure to appropriate the finished work. The cross is complete, but they must receive its benefits by faith. Salvation, healing, and victory were purchased on the cross, but they must be claimed spiritually through faith in Christ Jesus.
- Another reason is living with a slave mentality even after redemption. Some Christians (Children of God) still live as though they are spiritually enslaved even when the work of Christ on the cross has changed our identity. Galatians 3vs13, Colossians 2vs14.
