The Value of a Virtuous Woman

A virtuous woman is one of God's precious gifts. The Bible compares her value to rubies, one of the most treasured and valuable precious stones. This comparison teaches us that a woman's true worth is not determined by her physical appearance, possessions, social position, or achievements. Her greatest value comes from her character, wisdom, faith, and relationship with God.

Proverbs 31:10 begins by asking, "Who can find a virtuous woman?" This does not mean that virtuous women are impossible to find, but it emphasizes how precious and valuable godly character is. A woman who fears God, loves righteousness, shows kindness, and walks in wisdom is more valuable than material wealth. Her influence can bless her family, church, community, and generations after her.

A Woman Who Fears the Lord

The foundation of a virtuous woman's life is her reverence for God. Proverbs 31:30 says, "Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised." Physical beauty can fade with time, but the character developed through walking with God becomes increasingly valuable.

A woman who fears the Lord seeks His guidance before making important decisions. She depends on God's Word and desires to live according to His will. Her faith becomes a source of strength not only for herself but also for those around her.

A Woman of Wisdom

A virtuous woman is also a woman of wisdom. Proverbs 31:26 says, "She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness." She understands that words have power. Instead of using her words to destroy, she uses them to encourage, correct, comfort, and build others up.

Wisdom enables her to know when to speak and when to remain silent. She does not allow anger or emotions to control every response. Her words bring peace and strength to her home.

A Woman of Strength and Diligence

The virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31 is hardworking and responsible. Proverbs 31:17 says, "She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms." She is not lazy or careless with the opportunities God gives her.

She works diligently, manages what has been entrusted to her, and cares for those around her. Her strength does not mean she never becomes tired or faces difficulties. Rather, she knows where to find renewed strength. Isaiah 40:31 reminds believers that those who wait upon the Lord will renew their strength.

A Woman Who Blesses Others

The value of a virtuous woman extends beyond herself. Proverbs 31:20 says, "She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy." She is compassionate and willing to help others.

Her kindness may be expressed through encouragement, generosity, prayer, hospitality, or practical assistance. She understands that God blesses us so that we can become a blessing to others.

A Woman of Good Influence

A godly woman can have tremendous influence on her family and community. Timothy's faith was strongly influenced by his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice (2 Timothy 1:5). Their example demonstrates how the faith of a woman can affect future generations.

A mother who teaches her children God's Word, a wife who supports her family in faith, a young woman who chooses purity, and a woman who serves faithfully in the church can all become powerful instruments in God's hands.

Her Greatest Treasure Is God

The world may measure success by beauty, money, fame, or possessions, but God looks at the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7 reminds us that while people look at outward appearance, the Lord looks at the heart.

Therefore, every woman should seek to develop a heart that pleases God. Beauty is wonderful, achievement is valuable, and education is important, but none of these compares with a life surrendered to God.

A virtuous woman is truly far above rubies because her value cannot be measured by earthly possessions. Her godly character, wisdom, love, faith, and influence can leave a lasting legacy.
