We have been able to analyze the first four letters in the word HOLINESS. The letter “H” stands for Heavenly-minded. Colossians 3vs1-4, letter “O” stands for orderliness. 1 Corinthians 14vs40, letter “L” stands for Love. Romans 13vs8-10, while the letter “I” stands for Irreproachability. Luke 1vs6.
In part four, we are going to continue with the remaining four letters in the word Holiness as the tools that you and I need in this Christian journey.
The letter “N” in the word Holiness means NON-VIOLENCE. Matthew 26vs51-53
Violence is associated with wars, strife, injuries, death, and other satanic activities. As a child of God who is heavenly focused, you must not have any association with violence. You must shun violence in all forms, because you must follow the example of our master Jesus. Despite all the humiliation meted out to Jesus, he never resorted to violence. He did not open his mouth, and He did not respond violently. Isaiah 53vs7
If you truly want to exhibit holiness, then you have to be non-violent like Jesus Christ. In all things, when provoked or wronged, act as Jesus did. Do not immediately react; calmly let the Holy Spirit take control, and pray for special grace. Get away from violent spots, do not get involved in heated arguments; be ruled always by the Holy Spirit. Romans 8vs14.
The letter “E” in Holiness stands for EMPOWERMENT. Acts 1vs8.
The empowerment we are talking about is infilling of the Holy Spirit. The Christian Journey we are talking about is a spiritual journey, and it is only those who are filled with the spirit of God who can be able to journey well. You have to be filled with the power of God, and God, being a holy God, can only dwell in holy places or persons. To have the presence and, by extension, the power of God, it is imperative that you should be holy. Psalms 24vs3-4
If you want this empowerment, live holy before God and men, make fasting and prayer your norm, preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, confess and abstain from all sin, make Jesus Christ the Lord of your life, and you will see yourself operating in the power of God.
The letter “S” in Holiness stands for SANCTIFICATION. 2 Thessalonians 2vs13, 1 Peter 1vs16, 1 Thessalonians 4vs3-7.
To be sanctified is to dedicate yourself to God; it is to be set apart for God’s use. You need to know that sanctification can only be achieved by confessing and forsaking all sin and accepting Jesus as Lord and Saviour; and by living in obedience to His commandments, instructions, and His word and leading.
As youths and young adults, you have to live a God glorifying life, by being holy in all things (Body, soul, and spirit). 1 Thessalonians 5vs23. You need to know that Sanctification is a work of grace; it is both instantaneous and continuous.
When a saved person prays for Sanctification, God sanctifies him or her. This is instantaneous. However, as he or she studies and applies the word more and more, he or she becomes holier and more Christ-like. 2 Corinthians 3vs18.
The last letter in the word Holiness means SCRIPTURALITY. Colossians 3vs16
This means to study and obey the scriptures. You can live a holy life in this unholy world when the word of God is dwelling richly in you, when the word is deeply rooted in your life, the word will activate the daily cleanses process in your life.
Jesus said that His word had a cleansing effect on His adherents. John 15vs3. The word of God is like water, which sanctifies and cleanses. Ephesians 5vs26. There is no shortcut to Holiness. As you study the word, it throws a searchlight on your life, and you will become sanctified as you examine your life in the light of what you read in the word of God.
CONCLUSION: When you look at everything the Bible is saying in the book of Galatians 5vs22-26, you will see that everything still comes back to Holiness and all the words that have been generated from each letter in the word HOLINESS. This call is unto you that you should stand up and begin to work and walk in Holiness; this is because, if you truly want to reign with Christ in His Father’s Kingdom, you have to give yourself to Holy living because there is no unclean thing that will make it to heaven. 2 Corinthians 6vs17, Isaiah 52vs11.
You have to step out of uncleanliness because you are bearing the name of God; do away with every load of sin that can deprive you of entering into the glorious home on the last day. Revelation 18vs4.
And if you are reading this now and you have not come into friendship with Jesus Christ, it is very dangerous because the word of God says; friendship with the world is the enmity to God. James 4vs4. Jesus is calling you today. He loves you, and He wants to help you if only you can surrender your life to Him. Come to Him now, so that you too can set your path on the journey to the glorious land in Holiness. Jesus is the way.
