WHEN YOU HAVE PORTIONS BUT NO POSSESSION

1 Sam 1:4-10

4 And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:

5 But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the Lord had shut up her womb.

6 And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the Lord had shut up her womb.

7 And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the Lord, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat.

8 Then said Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?

9 So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the Lord.

10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the Lord, and wept sore. KJV

Although both sexes weep whenever things don’t work out as planned, weeping is a vital part of humanity. Our pursuits in life are different as such, it is wise for you to know your priority and understand why you are here.

Getting to a proposed destination requires determination. For every one of us not to continuously weep, it is important to discover what made us weep and the things that have kept us perpetually in a state of sorrow. Always have this in mind; the church is not a place for funfair, neither is it a place for busybodies. A church is a place of recovery, restoration, and peace.

Any person who knows how to weep is an intercessor. People ask, Are you sure Clement? Yes, I am. Let us see what the psalmist says Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the Lord hath heard the voice of my weeping. The Lord hath heard my supplication; the Lord will receive my prayer (Ps 6:8-9 KJV)

Weeping in this context doesn’t portray a literal definition, when you are in the place of prayer you are weeping because the presence of God will break you. Everyone has wept or has the potential to weep as long as we are still human because some situations and circumstances will test our limits, which can make us weep individually. For example;

  1. Hannah wept because of her name
  2. She was a praying woman
  3. She was growing older
  4. Her portion was great but no possession
  5. She has a womb but no child
  1. Hannah Wept Because Of Her Name

Whenever we are not manifesting to the fullest of our potential, we live below the standard of the creator for our lives. There is a purpose for everyone on earth and if we live our lives out of sync with the creator’s blueprint then it can be said that we have failed and robbed the creator of the satisfaction he enjoys when men fulfill their destinies. Another important thing you should find out is the meaning of your name because your name represents the prophetic destiny for your life; take for example Jesus which means the savior. Every time your name is mentioned, your prophetic destiny is being declared.

The name Hannah represents grace and favor. But as we understand grace means unmerited favor and ease, for her it was the opposite, hence she became the weeping woman. You may say what you are called doesn’t matter, you may attach more importance to the connection with people of influence, I want you to remember that there are several instances in scripture when the almighty God himself changed people's names (Genesis 32:27-28,  Act 13:9  Genesis 17:5,17).

You know you are a pretty woman with no suitor and eventually, age is no longer in your favor according to nature, I believe the natural response for such a person is to be anxious and filled with a sorrowful heart and eyes filled with tears. This is also applicable to men because everyone needs a companion. When a person can only boast of a good qualification or career with no possessions and achievements, the person needs to weep and cry out to God for help.

Favor divinely brings us unmerited possessions and grants us divine acceleration. For Hannah, her name was just an identity but not in reality. There comes a point in a person’s life when the journey becomes tough, and life whips us so hard even we could hardly recognize ourselves. It isn’t a time to give up yet but a moment to fight harder. In fact, you can fight your bad habit and your thought, it this isn’t time to play silent or quiet with the enemy. Just take a look at what Hannah did; she took her cares before the Lord and wept in prayer.

Your name is what you are, Moses means because I drew him from the water. As such, isn’t it surprising to note he had to deal with water at a major crossroad in his life? His downfall was caused by the angry Israelites demand for water, which in turn resulted in his failure to follow divine instruction.
