I say then; walk in the spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lust against the spirit and the spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the spirit, you are not under the law”. Galatians 5vs16-18.

It is now a known fact that the intense desire for money, power, sex, drugs, fame, etc by this generation is what is disconnecting them from God. This message is focused on the word lust and we are going to look at what lust is, the effects of lust, and how to overcome lust.

Lust is the intense desire for anything that will not improve your relationship with God. Lust is shameful and humiliating and it is personal. Lust will bring you to your knees in defeat; it fills you with remorse. A man who is being overtaken by lust is always ashamed of himself and afraid of where it could lead if he does not get control of his lust. A lust that you do not control becomes a sin.

Lust can also be an inordinate desire for pornography, fantasy, sex, clubbing, money, food, and many more. Although lust is usually about sexual desire, we need to know that lust is not limited to sexual lust alone. Lust is any sinful desire that is contrary to the will of God. 1 John 2vs16.

There is a need to know that no one is immune to lust (whichever type you are going through) by age, gender, or profession; but when you choose to operate the law of life; that is, the law of the spirit of life (Romans 7vs20-25) you will be able to tame your lustful desire(s).

1 John 2vs16 defines what the word lust consists of with three phrases: the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. When the three phrases are put together, it will be discovered that the flesh is what propels lust in man’s life. Flesh offers a bridge that always connects man to sin.

Do not forget that the lust that you do not control is what will generate sin. When that lust has finished, it hands the person over to death. Lust is the reason many people enjoy sin more than righteousness.

Another effect of lust is that it always magnifies seductive feelings in man’s spiritual life. When lust is conceived, it will bring forth sin, and then death; that is why you must bury lust totally in your life.

You must also know that the Devil is the manufacturer of lust. He only gives you the illusion of what God has to offer you as lust. His access point to manipulate you is your flesh, which is why you must conquer your fleshly desires if you must overcome lust.

The flesh plays a very important role in yielding to lust. The flesh always wants to do everything that is opposite to what God wants. If the flesh is not put under subjection, it will always make you sin against God. Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 9vs27 says “But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified”. To overcome and bury lustful desires totally, the body (flesh) must be put under subjection. You need to watch and pray, lest you enter (fall) into temptation of the flesh. Matthew 26vs41.
