CHILDREN ARE THE HERITAGE OF GOD

Psalm 127:3 – Lo, children are a heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

Every child is a blessing to the body of Christ, family, and nations. So God expects parents to raise them in His way and given principles, whosoever comes short of this simple instruction, therefore rebel against God and His heritage.

God’s instruction to parents. Proverbs 22:6, Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. We have a great schedule for that Basketball training, football, and all sports activities but the most important part of that child’s life is given less attention or none even.

When God says to train up the gift He gave you call child(ren), it means to direct them in his path, point them back to God who’s our Father, and establish a great relationship between them and God via morning devotion (family bible study), communicate with God via prayer.  Jesus is our classical example and he thought his disciples how to pray, Luke 11:1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.² And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.³ Give us day by day our daily bread.⁴ And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

Joshua understood this principle and that was the reason why he made the statement “I and my household will serve the Lord”, in other words, I will guide and guard my children unto God’s path. What a great benefit for our Children to know the Lord from their childhood. Trust me, it will be more and more glorious to grow beyond knowing Him but dwelling in the Lord there’s no amount of words to measure the greater peace you set before such a child. 

Hannah in 1 Samuel 1:10 ^“And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the Lord, and wept sore.¹¹ And she vowed a vow, and said, O Lord of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.

From the above scripture, Hannah was desperate to break herself loose from being barren, she asked the Lord for her heritage and then promise to give the child back to Him. How often do you pray for your child(ren) after we had given them all the basic needs, this is one of the most important obligations we need to perform for our children and if left undone, you’re setting them up for failure.

Samuel became a mighty prophet and a force to be reckoned with in his generation because his mother, Hannah prayed for him even after his birth. She returned back the boy Samuel unto the Lord completely. 1 Samuel 1^26 “And she said, Oh my lord, as thy soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the Lord. ²⁷For this child I prayed; and the Lord hath given me my petition which I asked of him: ²⁸Therefore also I have lent him to the Lord; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the Lord. And he worshipped the Lord there”.

However, Hannah had other children (1 Samuel 2:21) three sons and two daughters, their name wasn’t mentioned but the child that was born in the place of prayers did exploit.

One of the strong devil’s targets in every home is the children, he knew that once the children are gotten such a home is already broken. Where there is no father or united parents, the seed will be affected negatively. Even if you’re a single mother, stand and fight for your children in the place of prayer then hand them over to God. Build a strong fellowship between them and God because as parents, you don’t have to starve your children of this great opportunity.

Any parents whose presence is not felt in the life of their children; trust me their value is lesser than a loaf of bread. Every father is a feather that children ley on to fly. Because your own father wasn’t there doesn’t mean you should repeat the same on your children. Children see their parents as their role models, also God expects us to mentor them according to his rule and leadership. Children are God’s battle-axe and weapon of war therefore, His desire and expectation for them are to do great and marvelous work - in them and through them. 

Jeremiah 51:20 “Thou art my battle axe and weapons of war: for with thee will I break in pieces the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms; ²¹And with thee will I break in pieces the horse and his rider; and with thee will I break in pieces the chariot and his rider; ²²With thee also will I break in pieces man and woman; and with thee will I break in pieces old and young; and with thee will I break in pieces the young man and the maid; ²³I will also break in pieces with thee the shepherd and his flock; and with thee will I break in pieces the husbandman and his yoke of oxen; and with thee will I break in pieces captains and rulers”.

God knew Abraham will command his Children after Him, Genesis 18:19a. God’s confidence in Abraham was super great concerning raising and teaching his children the path to righteousness. What is the level of God’s trust and confidence in you concerning that glorious heritage He has given you? God brings this article on your path this day to speak to you and also correct your wrongdoing.

You and I need God’s wisdom to raise his heritage, and wisdom is what we must always ask God at every stage of our children’s life. The wisdom you apply when they were in First Grade wasn’t going to get you through to second grade, etc.

You must train your children on the importance of prayer and studying the word of God. Like I told my son before asking for any needs from me, it will be better to talk to your Father who is my Father in Heaven to provide for your earthly father so he can provide for your needs. And believe me sincerely, whenever he applies that principle it works.
