“I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?” — John 11:25-26 (KJV). Without faith, resurrection is impossible. Without faith, it is impossible to receive the life that Jesus provides. With a question that goes right to the core of every believer's journey, Jesus made this obvious to Martha: "Believest thou this?" There was nothing casual or sentimental about this conversation. Lazarus was no longer alive. It was over. The tomb was sealed. Jesus, however, wasn't only discussing how to raise a man at that time; He was also demonstrating how faith is the key that unlocks otherwise unattainable circumstances.
Jesus encountered blame, crying, and sadness when He got to Bethany. "Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died," Martha replied. (John 11:21). Does that sound familiar? We frequently believe that the issue has reached a dead end if God does not appear when we expect him to. Jesus, however, asked for faith rather than more emotion. Denying the realities is not what faith is all about. Lazarus had passed away. Your health issue is genuine. There is actual money pressure. Your disappointment is real. But faith maintains that the word of God is more important than the outward appearance of life. It is stated clearly in Hebrews 11:1: "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." You're already headed in the wrong direction if you cannot believe it until you see it. Jesus urged Martha to believe in
Too many of us stop at hoping. We're hoping for a change. We pray that God will intervene. Hope, however, is not faith. Faith takes; hope craves. Faith brings what God has stated into your present moment by reaching into the invisible. It wasn't Jesus who said, "He who hopes in Me..." He said, "He who believes in me." (John 11:25). You enter a heavenly partnership through faith. Even when the earth is silent, it aligns your lips and heart with what heaven is saying. Jesus clarifies in Mark 11:22–24 that faith, not labor, is the source of mountain-moving power: "Have faith in God. Whoever says to this mountain, "Be removed and be cast into the sea," without hesitation in his heart, will have whatever he commands. Instead of pleading lips, resurrection life responds to believing hearts.
Admittedly, there are times when faith doesn't seem exciting at all. Feels like a choice. A challenging one. Like when you declare, "I still believe," even if everything is screaming, "Give up!" A spiritual high or goosebumps are not what faith is. It's a purposeful, solid stance. Abraham had every natural reason to doubt, yet "He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God," according to Romans 4:20. Dead wombs are raised by that type of faith. Miracles happen when people have that type of faith. Don't wait for the pain to go away or for the stars to align. Remain steadfast in your faith. Say the Word of God. Resurrection life is activated in this way.
