WHAT ARE THE THINGS THAT CAN BOW MAN’S HEAD?
There are many natural and spiritual aspects that can weigh one down, but we will focus on just one or two today. As God grants us the grace, we will explore others at a later time.
- Failure and disappointment may bow one’s head. Luke 5vs1-6. Peter tried his professional skills as a fisherman all through the night to catch fish, and he failed. He was disappointed; his technical knowledge when it comes to fishing failed him, not until Jesus Christ stepped onto his ship before the story could change. Sometimes, failure and disappointment can make you look down on yourself, and not the people around you; this is because when Jesus told Peter to launch into the sea, his response showed that Peter had also given up hope because of his experience of failure and disappointment. Thank God he believed in the authority of Jesus over all situations.
- Rejection and mockery is another thing. Nehemiah 2vs17-20. Nehemiah faced rejection and condemnation from Samballat and Tobiah; he was mocked when he was trying to do the right thing; he was rejected by people who should be supporting him morally, materially, financially, and otherwise. The situation changed when God intervened; he and the people who were with him were strengthened, the Lord prospered their hands, and they built the wall of Jerusalem successfully.
- Fear of what tomorrow holds is another thing that can bow man’s head. The fear of the unknown, fear of having nobody to help in the journey of life, fear of how to be somebody in life. The word of God says, “Take no thought for tomorrow; for tomorrow shall take thought for the things of itself…” Matthew 6vs34.
- Family battles and evil patterns or forces. A good example is the story of King David and Absalom, his son; Absalom represented family battle and evil forces that frustrated the life of David. Absalom was a force that put the head of David down in sorrow; he stood as the power that did not want the promise of God to come to pass in his father's life. 2 Samuel 15vs 13-30. When it comes to the issue of family battle and evil forces, the only person who can help you out is God, because this kind of force has the holistic understanding of your life, they know everything about your movement, your weakness and your strength; they sometime have the legal right to take the legal ground against you; they have to be faced by God, which was why David had to cried to God that he should turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness, because he knew is not the fight he could fight on his own. 2 Samuel 15vs31
- Sin and guilt of sin can also bow man’s head. Psalm 38vs1-5. Another thing that can make a child of God bow his or her head is sin. Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden had to run away from the presence of God; their heads were bowed in shame and guilt of their sin because of their disobedience to the instructions given to them by God. Genesis 3vs1-13.
Not only does sin bow one’s head, but sin usually breaks the edge of fire and protection around children of God whenever he (Devil) wants to attack such a person. The only way out is to run to God in repentance through Jesus Christ and forsake the sinful way totally.
