THE LIGHT BEARER

Every child of God who has been redeemed through the blood of Jesus Christ is expected to be a light bearer; as a young adult or youth, God is expecting and counting on you to be the light that will attract people out of darkness, God has made everything available for you through the Holy Spirit to light the candle in your hand.

Chris Rice in his song “Go Light Your World” says “There is a candle in every soul, some brightly burning while some dark and cold. There is a spirit that brings a fire, ignites a candle and makes his home. So carry your candle, run to the darkness, seek out the helpless, confused and torn; hold out your candle for all to see it, take your candle, and go light your world. Take your candle, and go light your world”.

God calls you light, the light of God in you is to help the frustrated, and you are to use your light to fix the helpless. Matthew 5vs14 says “Ye are the light of the world; A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden”. God has named you a light, you are to give direction to people as a child of God; it is expected of you to brighten the lives of people around you when you allow your light to shine. As long as you are called a child of the Most High God, as long as you represent God in this world, you are the light of the world. John 9vs5.

As a light bearer, you have been given the power to showcase the love of God to your world and to your generation. John 13vs34. You have been commanded that you should show love to people around you just as God has shown his love to you by giving his only begotten son to you on the cross. John 3vs16. Nobody will come through you to Christ if you choose not to show them the love that is in Christ Jesus. 1 Timothy 3vs12, 1 John 3vs23.

The light bearer is to give hope to the hopeless. You are to give assurance to the people who have lost hope that there are still better days ahead. Job 11vs18 says “And thou shall be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety”. You should be a bearer of hope (Light) to your community, through the light of God that is shining in your life, you need to let them know that there is still hope for them. Job 14vs7.

Light allows people to see their surrounding world by distinguishing details such as colours, movement, etc. As a light bearer, do not forget that you have a great impact and roles to play and make in the lives of the people that surround you; you are to show them Christ, and you are to arise for the salvation of others because that is the primary purpose that you have as an ambassador of God in your world and in your generation. As a light bearer, you have to show them the grace of God through the Lord Jesus Christ who brought salvation to the world. Titus 2vs11.

For people to embrace the light that you are carrying, there are some attitudes or characters they must see in you before they will follow you. Just like an Olympic torch bearer; not just anyhow person that can just be an Olympic torch bearer, there are some attributes such a person must possess before he or she can be allowed to carry the light. Also, as a light bearer for God’s Kingdom, there are some things that must be seen in you before people can follow you or come to your light.

(1)   You must be a lover of peace. Many are Christian youth that are violent in their attitude and character. You cannot be violent and expect people to be attracted to you; it is only through your attitude of peace that you can pull those who are in darkness out. You are to follow peace with all men because that is one of the things that can make people to be attracted to you. Hebrew 12vs14.

Peace is an ingredient that will propel people to rush out of darkness to embrace the light in your hands. As a man or woman of peace, you will bear good fruit because a violent person cannot bring forth peaceful people. Matthew 7vs17.

(2)  You must be a man of faith. Generations after generations are claiming the blessings of Father Abraham today because he was a man of faith. Hebrew 11vs17. Abraham received the blessings and promises of God for his life; and we are all claiming the blessings today because he did not throw his faith in God to the ocean. People must see you as a man of faith before they can come to the knowledge of the light of God that you are bearing.

Your faith should encourage the hopeless around you to take the step of faith into the hope that is available in God. When you always exercise your faith as a true light bearer, people will be encouraged to follow you to the Lord Jesus Christ.

(3)  You must be a bearer of good news. The word in your mouth must be the one that sweetens the lonely heart. You must be filled with words of grace and hope; as God’s light bearer, people will want to listen to the word that carries God from your mouth. The incorruptible word of God (1 Peter 1vs23) must be all that should fill your mouth in order for people to surrender their will to the Lordship of Jesus Christ through you. 2 Corinthians 2vs17.

CONCLUSION: If you have to be a true light bearer, you have to be a blameless and harmless child of God, you have to be without fault in the midst of this crooked and perverse generation, your light must overtake their darkness. Philippians 2vs15.

Let the people who walk in darkness see that great light of God through you as a child of God; that you are a youth or young adult should be the more reason why you must shine the light of God in your location because you still have the energy to go about it, and because you understand the language and the voice (Technological language) than the older generation. Isaiah 9vs2.

It is a privilege to be among the light bearers of Christ Jesus; in Him is life, and the life is the light of men. John 1vs4-5. If you want to shine over darkness, if you want to be recognized as a light bearer, you need to surrender your life to Jesus who is the light of all men. Just as I said earlier, it is a privilege to be among the light bearers; the truth is, you also can choose to be among those who are enjoying the privilege. You do not have to be afraid of darkness around you, all you need to do is to take that step of faith by allowing Jesus to take over the boat of your life and you will see darkness giving way totally to light in your life.
