A husband is a man who is married. He is a woman’s partner in marriage.

To be dutiful is to be willingly obedient to a cause or order out of a sense of duty and respect. A duty also is a work that you are obliged to perform for moral or legal reasons.

Biblically, a dutiful husband is the one that is faithfully committed to obligations laid down by the Lord in book of Law (1 Tim 3:16, Joshua 1:8). Adam the first husband has a lot of responsibilities committed to his hands by God when he was created and put in Garden of Eden, the Lord saw that it was not good for him to be alone, therefore He made him an helper suitable for him and this brings about the establishment of family institution. It is pertinent to know therefore that as a man you have obligations to perform to your wife and your home at large as a service unto the Lord just as the wife have hers too that your home may bring glory to the Lord.

A dutiful husband is a man of integrity both at home and outside. He does what is right. He will not subject his wife to any form of disgrace or demeaning. Matthew 1:19, Proverbs 20:7.

He is man that understands the mystery of leaving and cleaving. Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:5. He have a great respect for his wife and his home and place value on her. They build their family together, and see to it that there is clear separation from extended family he knows that his extended family is different from his and therefore don’t run it according to their dictate but as the Lord leads. Mark 10:7.

A great encourager and cheer leader, Deuteronomy 24:5, living joyfully with his wife, Ecclesiastes 9:9. A faithful man to their marital vows, he is committed to her wife’s body alone and derive satisfaction from her alone Proverbs 15:9. He does not cheat on his wife in any way be it sex, finance, etc. Malachi 2:14-15, but they are one both in body and in spirit thereby protect their spiritual unity.

He is a worthy head 1 Corinthians 11:3, a servant head just as our Lord Jesus, not lording his position over his wife and home at large but a worthy example in service even as unto the Lord. He is a goodly man and render due benevolence to his wife, he does good and not evil 1 Corinthians 7:13.

His love for her is unconditional. He is committed to her increase in all things. He see to it that she is becoming better and better by the day. The bible admonishing husband to love his wife as he (Christ) love the Church. Ephesian 5:25-29 tells us the kind of love Christ love the church. He laid His life for the Church to make the Church holy unto himself and to our God. He constantly uses His word to clean the Church of His filthiness as like using water to clean dirt. He does this so that the Church could be without spot or wrinkle or any such thing but without blemish. As a husband, do you magnify the weaknesses of your wife and home or you see to it that she is becoming better by the day without spot or wrinkle. Are you always bitter against her or you see to it that she is nourished and cherished as your own body? Colossian 13:11.

A dutiful husband understands the strength and weakness of his wife and therefore deal with her with knowledge giving honour unto her. 1 Peter 3:7.

A dutiful husband is a conscious provider. He never lose connection with his own head which is Christ to see to it that the needs of is wife and even home are adequately met. He is responsible and hardworking and never eat the bread of idleness. A godly model indeed. 1 Timothy. 5:8.

To whom much is given, much is also expected; Luke 12:48, you are made the head of the woman so you can be a good example of God head, its not just bearing the title  but a call for higher responsibility for a man that does the will of the Lord shall be bless in all his ways.

  • That you may be called the child of your father which is in heaven and this guarantee heaven at last, Matthew 5:16, 45a

Lastly, the Lord always make grace available to will and to do of His good pleasure if only you can ask Him to help you. He is able to see you to the finishing line, may we all end well and strong in Jesus name. Amen. Philippians 2:13, Hebrews 4:16, 7:25, James 1:5.
