We are living in a generation that celebrates the moment but ignores eternity; we have found ourselves in a culture that says "enjoy now, think later"—a mindset that glorifies pleasure but neglects purpose. Many youths of this generation are not denying God alone; they are also postponing him. Living for today is not just a lifestyle; it is a spiritual trap, because whenever a man loses sight of tomorrow, he will abuse today—Ecclesiastes 11;9.
When a man lives only for today, he becomes blind to eternal consequences. Hebrews 9:27. He measures life by pleasure, not by purpose. A man who lives for today will forget that life is a training ground, not a final destination. Luke 12:19-20. You need to know, as a child of God and as a Christian youth, that if eternity is not in your consciousness, vanity will become your pursuit.
Living for today will produce spiritual carelessness. Matthew 24:48-50. As a child of God, when you focus only on today, prayer will become optional for you; holiness becomes negotiable, discipline becomes burdensome. For instance, people who are living for today will usually say, "God understands, "let me enjoy my life first, "I will change later". And they have forgotten that later is a dangerous illusion—Proverbs 27:1.
Living for today feeds the flesh and starves the spirit. Galatians 6:8 says, "For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the spirit shall of the spirit reap life everlasting." Do you know that living for today is choosing pleasure over purity, choosing comfort over consecration, and choosing feelings over faith? When you are living for today, you will always love to jump the process; you will always want things done without due process. The flesh will always demand "Now", but the spirit works with "Process". Romans 8:13
Living for today is a destroyer of destiny. Genesis 25:29-34. Esau is the perfect example of a man who, because of today, traded his tomorrow. He valued hunger more than heritage; he chose satisfaction over significance. Hebrews 12:16-17 calls him a profane person. You need to know this truth as a child of God: every time you choose immediate gratification over divine instruction, you are selling a part of your destiny. Do not be like Samson, who, because of uncontrolled sexual gratification and lust, damaged and mortgaged his destiny and purpose on the lap of Delilah.
Living for today makes you unprepared for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Matthew 25:1-13. The foolish virgins in this Bible passage lived for the moment. They had lamps but no oil; they had an appearance but no depth when the bridegroom came; they were not ready. As a child of God and a Christian youth, you must not forget that Jesus Christ our Lord is coming at a time when many are distracted by today, which is why you have to be ready. Matthew 24:44.
Living for today will lead to regret tomorrow. Regret is the harvest of careless living. Luke 15vs11-32. Many people will cry in their tomorrow not because God was unfaithful but because they wasted their time and purpose in their yesterday. Proverbs 5:11-12.
You need to know that there is wisdom in living today with eternity in view. Psalms 90:12 says, "So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our heart unto wisdom". Living today with eternity in view means seeing God in all that you do and preparing for a glorious tomorrow that accommodates many generations after you. God is not against enjoyment, but he is against waste. Living today with eternity in view will help you seek God wholeheartedly. Matthew 6:33.
You need to live with eternal consciousness by setting your affection on things above. Colossians 3:2. You must live by practicing daily spiritual discipline in prayer, word study, and holiness; you must learn how to delay gratification; you must know that not everything you can do is something you should do. Be intentional in walking in purpose, through which you will redeem your time. Ephesians 5:15-16.
CONCLUSION: You need to know that the tragedy of life is not death, it is living without purpose. Living for today may feel good now, but it can cost you forever. Mark 8:36. Not surrendering your life to Jesus Christ is an act of living for today, and just like what Mark 8:36 says, "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul?" There is no profit in it if you neglect and reject the call of God's love; you need Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior if you truly want to live with eternity in view. Come to him today, and you will never regret doing so. God bless you.
