It is obvious that many children of God are living daily in fear; even when 2 Timothy 1vs7 says, “For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind’. Many youth and young adults are still living in fear of the unknown; they are still allowing Satan to torment them with the fear of the failure of the past, just like what Job said in Job 3vs25 “For the thing which I greatly feared has come upon me”. It is no news that many are living in the cage of that demon called fear because they are allowing the devil to use the experience and journey of their parents to dictate their journey in life. God is saying to you today, Fear not, for I am with you. Isaiah 41vs10.
To conquer the demon called fear, you need to possess spiritual knowledge of what fear truly means. Fear is not merely a psychological reaction; scripture often reveals it as a spiritual force that opposes faith. Faith connects you to God’s possibilities while fear connects you to human limitations. Every major breakthrough in the Bible is preceded by God saying, “Fear not.” This reveals that the demon called fear is one of the greatest enemies of destiny. For instance, when the children of Israel saw the Egyptians army coming from their back, and red sea at their front, they were so afraid because of the threat of death at their disposal; but God gave them the word of assurance “Fear Not”. Exodus 14vs5-14
Another good example is Gideon, he was running and hiding from the Midianites army that always come to invade their land when God, through his angel, said to him fear not, for he will be the one to deliver the people of Israel. Judges 6vs12-24
We need to know that fear always appeared as a barrier before a divine assignment (Breakthrough). With our understanding of the biblical or spiritual meaning of what fear is, there is a need for us to look at what usually triggers fear in the life of a believer. Fear rarely appears without a trigger; understanding the root cause will help us defeat it.
1. Many times, uncertainty about the future (Fear of the unknown) always triggers fear. Anxiety about what tomorrow holds; when visions and dreams about one’s future are not clear, fear fills the gap, because human beings naturally fear what they cannot control. Fear thrives where trust in God’s sovereignty is weak; that is why the word of God in Matthew 6vs34 is encouraging us not take thought for tomorrow, for tomorrow shall take thought of itself. He said sufficient is the evil in each day. Do not let the fear or uncertainty about the future cripple your progress or testimonies. Stand up and challenge your fear.
2. Another deadly weapon that always triggers fear is the memory of past failures or events. Your enemy (Devil) will always remind you of previous disappointments or failures to lure you into the cage or prison of that demon called fear. He will weaponnize your history to intimidate your destiny, that is why you have to allow God to handle your past and let your past be in your past; and shift your focus to what God is saying about your today and your future. Jeremiah 29vs11.
