“And after them out of all the tribes of Israel such as set their hearts to seek the Lord God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the Lord God of their fathers.2 Chronicles 11:16.

The heart must be guarded jealously for issues of life flows out of it. 2 Chronicles 11:16 makes it clear and clearer that – for the heart to be a place for a godly relationship, it must be carefully prepared. How then do we prepare our hearts for godliness? 

PREPARING YOUR HEART FOR GODLINESS

If the heart is desperately wicked as the Bible put it, yet it is needed to relate with God, there is therefore the need to prepare it for godly acts. The following ways could be employed in order to have our hearts prepared, and wholly dedicated to God. “With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.” Psalm. 119:10.

1.   Having true and genuine repentance

Therefore also now, saith the Lord, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning. And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil. - Joel 2:12-13 

And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. - Acts 8:37 

Genuine repentance brings brokenness of the hearts and produces genuine love for the living God. Matthew 22:37.

2.   Having undivided love for God.

And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might - Deuteronomy 6:5 

The Love of God in our hearts produces a soul tied to God. 

And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. - Romans 5:5 

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? - Romans 8:35 

Demonstration of love is by giving. John 3:16, 1 John.3:18

3.   Having constant and consistent prayer life - Mark 11:24

Aside from asking in prayers, we are to seek God in prayer. Matthew 7:7, Jer. 29: 13.

There is always a divine contact and intimacy when we seek God in prayer, Jer. 29:13.

Daniel has divine consciousness through his consistent prayer life, 1 John .3:22. 5:14.

Prayer enhances inner righteousness.

4.   Having absolute and undoubted trust in God - Proverb 3:5.

It is a way of exercising your faith to eradicate doubt and unbelief and result in great success. 2 Chronicles. 20:20.

Strength is derived by trusting God - Isaiah 26:4

Absolute trust in God brings divine guidance. Psalm 37:5, and Isaiah 50:10.

5.   Having total and uncompromising Obedience to God - Psalm 119:2, 34.

God will not relate with a disobedient person, He hates it. I Sam 15:22. Deut. 26: 15.

Obedience is a part way that results in divine fellowship John. 14:23.

It ensures membership in God's family. Matthew 12:50.

It is a Spiritual knowledge John 7:17 and it is a base root of the character Matthew 7:24.

6.   Having a dedicated study and meditation in His Words:

I Timothy 2:15, Psalm 119:9, 11, Psalm 119:15-16, Psalm 119:97.

The word of Christ must dwell in you richly Colossian. 3:16. Deuteronomy 6:6.

It sanctifies Ephesian 5:26, I Peter 1:22

Rejoicing in the heart and enlightening the eyes. Psalm. 19:8

It must be love that is pure. Psalm 119:140

It produces fear of God Deuteronomy 17: 19

Forsaken lead to destruction. 2 Chronicles 12:1-5. 

In conclusion, to pursue godliness, it is very important for us to prepare our hearts. 2 Chronicles. 12:14.
