TOTAL SUBMISSION TO GOD

The act of submission is rooted in the recognition that God is sovereign, omniscient, and inherently good. The Bible frequently underscores the importance of submission, illustrating that it leads to spiritual growth, peace, and alignment with God's purpose for our lives.

James 4:7 invites us to “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” This passage underscores a crucial point: submission to God is not merely an act of humility but a powerful stance against the adversary. By recognizing God’s lordship, believers can effectively counteract the temptations and challenges posed by the devil. When one is under God’s authority, they gain the strength and wisdom needed to resist negative influences and remain steadfast in their faith.

Another essential aspect of submission is found in Proverbs 3:5-6, which instructs us to “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.” This scripture highlights that submission involves trusting God fully – even when circumstances are puzzling or daunting. In Philippians 2:5-7, Paul writes, “Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.” Jesus exemplified complete submission to the Father’s will, even to the point of death on the cross. His model of humility teaches believers to submit not only to God but also to one another in love, fostering unity and community within the body of Christ.

Additionally, Romans 12:1 exhorts us to offer ourselves as living sacrifices: “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.” This radical form of surrender challenges Christians to give up their desires, ambitions, and even their lives for the sake of God’s plan. Such submission is described as true worship and reflects a heart that seeks to live in accordance with God’s will.

The benefits of submitting to God are vast. One of the most significant aspects is the peace that accompanies such a choice. Philippians 4:6-7 assures us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” When we submit our worries and desires to God through prayer, He envelops us in a peace that transcends our circumstances, anchoring our hearts firmly in His faithfulness.
