YOU ARE A LIGHT

There is this declaration concerning you in the book of Matthew 5vs14; “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid”. God has created you as a youth to be the light that will illuminate your generation (The World), He has invested so much into you in order for you to carry out this assignment of illuminating every dark area in the world.

It is not until the time you become a preacher that you can light up your world. Also, you may not have the capacity to travel to all the four corners of the world to make the necessary change as a Christian youth but God has given you the enablement and the capacity to make the necessary change by lightening up every darkness in your immediate environment; your working place, your community, your family and many more. What I am trying to let you know is that, it is not until you move round the world that you can be the light to people in darkness, you can start from your locality, your school and community.

The Bible passage above in verses 16 says; “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your father which is in heaven”. This is simply saying, you can effect a good change in your community, your church, family etc. with your good works and good attitude. We have seen many bad influencers and good influencers in our community and society as a whole but you can choose to be the light (The Good Influencer) in your society. When you become the light in your society, family etc. as a youth, what are the things that will show as the effects?

WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS OF BEING A LIGHT?

• Light Brings Joy: The truth is, when there is darkness, joy cannot manifest there but wherever there is light, joy follows. As a Christian youth, your responsibility as a child of God is to bring joy to people. A good example is the story of Joseph in the prison, even with the fact that he was a prisoner, the bible says; he made himself happy and encouraged himself and others always because it was in the process of encouraging others that he got to know about the dream of the Cupbearer and the Baker (Genesis 40vs1-11).

God has given you the capacity as the light of the world to give joy to people around you by doing things that will make humanity happy and not sad; you have the responsibility of brightening your community by bringing smiles to the faces of people and not the other way round.

• Light Brings Clear Vision: There are many young people in your community or family that do not have a clear vision of where they are going and what they want to be in life. Many of these young fellows have entered into drugs, cultism, prostitution and many other evil acts; and your job as light is to show them the direction. You are to pull them out of these bad habits by helping them to see the vision and purpose of their lives.

Simon Peter was wasting away as a local fisherman at the lake of Gennesaret, he was an unprofitable fisherman who had no positive impact on his community or society but from his first encounter with Jesus Christ who is the greatest light, the bible says; he (Simon Peter) started calling people to come and share in his blessings (Luke 5vs1-11).

Not only did Peter become a light, he also became a great light that did positive wonders in the society (Acts 3vs1-9, Acts 5vs14-16). Jesus Christ in that book of Luke chapter five saw in Peter a man beyond an ordinary local fisherman, he was a great evangelist that will become a fisher of men and He (Jesus) helped him to get his vision clear.

Do not look down on those young generations or youths or anyone at all in that environment of yours doing the wrong thing, you are to help them get a clear vision of their lives as a child of God because many of them just need someone that will help them to the right direction or path of life.

• Light is attractive: There is nobody who does not love light or like light, even the witches in their coven need light to operate. You are to use your attractions as a light (A child of God) to bring people into the knowledge of God by preaching the gospel of truth (Gospel of Jesus Christ) to the sinners around you. You can win souls for Christ through your profession, that is, through your work or job, your songs as a musician can win souls for Christ.

You are a light and light is attractive; Moses got attracted to that light (The burning bush) in the book of Exodus 3vs1-12, and when God discovered that he had gotten the attention of Moses, that was when He (God) could speak to Moses (Exodus 3vs3-4).

Before you can make a positive change or impact in your society or community as a light, you have to make people attracted to yourself first, you have to gain their trust with your good works before you can speak to them about the gospel of truth.

• Light Brings Change: You are to effect positive changes as a political leader in your community or country. This is because the word of God says, “when the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.” (Proverbs 29vs2).

You do not have to wait till the time you will gain political power or position before you can make the change that is expected, you can start with your family and in your immediate community because you are the light that people are waiting for. Jesus said in the book of Matthew 5vs15-16 that no man lighted a candle and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; he also said you should let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. 

In Conclusion: There is room for everybody to become a light in this world of darkness and everybody includes you. Maybe you are reading this message and you have not surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, you have not accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior; maybe you are still parading yourself with the work of darkness or you are part of the people that are giving your community sleepless nights, you can come over into the light today and be the real you that God has made you to be.

The testimony of God about you is that, “you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar person; that you should show forth the praises of him (God) who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light”(1 Peter 2vs9).

But you can only enjoy this testimony above after you might have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior. if you have not, please do now because Jesus Christ is coming very soon to take all the people that are lights to his Father’s (God) kingdom and those who are darkness will have their place in hell which is the second death.
