  1. She Was a Praying Woman

May God give grace and strength to the intercessory teams in all our churches and nations in Jesus name, Amen. I trust you remember Jairus, scripture called him a great ruler of the synagogue you can get the whole story in Mark 5:22-43.

He was a great ruler of the synagogue, you can tell he has probably prayed for the sick at least once. It is one of the duties of the administrators in the synagogue to pray for the oppressed. Unfortunately, they have adopted a form of religion with no power. The temple was a total write-off, and became a den of robbers. Let me make a personal statement here; Men of God do weep contrary to popular opinion that they are larger than life but the difference between the man of God and you is that he has learned the art of weeping before the maker as opposed to shedding tears to gain men’s sympathy. The irony of this is that, you can go to your man of God weeping but he is never permitted to go to his flock weeping. So here was Jairus’ daughter dying and it was humanly impossible to save her from her death bed. He had to forget his status and ego and humble himself before Jesus Christ, the man who went about doing good, he wept at His feet. Let me also add at this point that our tears in themselves cannot save us because our tears can only touch God but not move Him. However, when we add prayers to our tears, it moves God to act on our behalf.

A friend of mine has been trusting God for the fruit of the womb for about ten years but they did what Job did in

Job 42:10;  and the Lord turned the captivity of Job; when he prayed for his friends…

She and her husband agreed to pray for another family trusting God for the fruit of the womb, God honored their prayer yet they are is still waiting for their own child. It is an overwhelming situation that draws tears from their eyes every now and then and I have nothing to say to her other than to encourage her.

  1. Age wasn’t on her side

Age is related to time and I hope it is safe to assume that everything operates by timing. Time never depreciates neither does a man’s age.  Therefore there are certain acceptable age in a man’s life when he ought to have attained some expected level of achievement(s) and possession(s). Few days ago I was discussing with someone and I told him how an elderly person who knew when I was born could not help but marvel at how this young boy of yesterday has grown, gotten married with children.

Whenever you check the year you graduated from the university and a few years after nothing has changed, you will definitely want to weep.  Age is not a friend to any person, it is even a more serious issue for women; when a woman gets to a marriageable age but experiences a form of delay it will definitely affect her child bearing ability. This reminds me of Mama Sarah, she laughed when God himself visited them, and told her that in spite of her aged body she would give birth to a child.

Let's see what the scripture says:

And they said unto him, where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent.

10 And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.

11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.

12 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, after I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?

13 And the Lord said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh… Gen 18:9-13 KJV

She was mocking the prophetic utterance because such laughter connotes unbelief. God’s specialty is always the impossible because He only can do impossible things, He is omnipotent. We always believe in our own strength and ability when we face difficulties, but it is not by power nor by might, but our help is in the name of the Lord.

Also, Zechariah expressed his unbelief at the tidings of joy and hope that angel Gabriel brought to him because he was well stricken in age too. God doesn’t want us to connect our age to anything He has prepared to achieve through us. Because our age can become a form of limitation thereby thwarting us from reaching and fulfilling our potential.

Angel Gabriel sealed up his mouth for nine-month, so he would not be able to destroy the plan of God.

  1. Her Portion Was Great But No Possession

A great portion without possession will always make us weep. The only thing that matters to a barren woman is having a child, not portions that adds nothing to her. Since Elkanah knew He is better to her than ten sons, he shouldn’t have married Peninnah. It is ironic how some men profess undying love for their wives but yet keep on having affairs with other women and eventually get married to them after getting them pregnant. They are only compounding the problem.

Those with great portions but no possession are those with great potential but are living like paupers and nonentities. Whenever your income does not match your qualification, you only have portions without possession.

Let me give you an insight into what I mean by portions but no possession. Portions are goods that are shared between groups of people. It could also mean the part allotted to someone after these goods have been shared. Portions will always be in part. However, there are precious things of life that cannot be divided, they are the packages that comes to you in bundles. They are things you have absolute right over, they are yours now and forever more. They are your own belongings and things you can point at as your own achievement. These are possessions. Possession signifies property in the special sense of private ownership that one that personally acquired and carefully preserves.

A brother told me some years ago while I was pastoring a branch of RCCG Nigeria in the north east that, when he went to his village, he met a primary school-mate of his Who can only boast of his primary school certificate but never had the opportunity to further his education, but now owns a car and a house. On the other hand, He could only boast of a university degree with nothing to show for it and his friend could not help but pity him by openly declaring that with all his educational qualifications he was in no way better than him who dropped out of school early. The brother could not help but to weep in his closet.

Some parents send their children to well-paid institutions of learning to enhance their future, but those children are going in the opposite direction.

Some have invested a great part of their life and time in their marriage, but the marriage eventually hits the rock.
