The love of God is an enduring light in a world that is ripped at the edges by conflict, division, and suffering. Every day, the noise of injustice and the coldness of stubborn hearts bear witness to the fact that mankind is in dire need of something greater than itself: a love that mends scars, tears down walls, and restores hope. God alone possesses that love. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16, NKJV). God's love is the life-giving power that penetrated our brokenness via Jesus Christ; it is not only a vague emotion. He entered our mess, took on our sin, and paid the price for us; He did not love us in a vacuum. "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8).
We have been called to be bearers of this wonderful love, not only its receivers. The call of the believer is unmistakable: share His love in a world that is becoming more and more marked by ruthless self-interest, anger, and despair. "Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love" (1 John 4:7-8). For Christians, genuine love is ingrained in our entire being; it is not an option. Its foundation is found in God's basic essence rather than in sentiments.
But how do we spread this love in a world that seems determined to choke it out?
First, we need to realize that God's love is active. It is not giving in to evil or being weak. It calls individuals from darkness into light and is a strong, redeeming force. "For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God" (1 Peter 3:18). When it comes to sin, love offers an invitation to change rather than judgment. Upon gazing into the eyes of the broken, it says, "There is more for you." Jesus gave His disciples precise instructions before ascending into heaven: "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15). And again in Matthew 28:19, "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." We bring with us the promise of eternal life, based on divine love, rather than just moral guidance.
Arrogance and shouting louder than the chaos are not ways that God's love is communicated. Living reflections—men and women whose lives beat with the heartbeat of heaven—are the ones who disseminate it. It spreads when people show kindness in the face of brutality, show mercy to those who don't deserve it, speak the truth with love, and provide hope to those who don't have it. Paul captures this beautifully in 2 Corinthians 5:14-15: "For the love of Christ compels us... that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again." We should be so overcome by God's love that we cannot be indifferent. We need to be ready to get our hands dirty in other people's lives—to listen, to help, to walk through the valleys with them. We must love fearlessly, without pretense, and without ulterior motives. By doing this, we become live examples that God's love is a genuine, present-day reality rather than a fiction.
Our world can appear too shattered, too cruel, and too far gone. The Cross, however, says differently. The love of Christ can and must be shared as long as we have the Spirit of God inside us and breath in our lungs. It is not overpowered by darkness. It is not quenched by pessimism. Hatred cannot take it away. To a world in dire need of genuine love, we are Jesus' hands, feet, voice, and embrace. Let's not deny what Christ gave up all for.
Prayer:
Father, We are grateful for your unending devotion for us. Fill us with Your bravery and kindness. Teach us to love without fear or limitations and to see others as You see them. Allow Your love to pour through us like a powerful river, giving hope to empty hearts and healing to damaged lives. In a world in dire need of You, use us to be living examples of Your grace.
In the name of Jesus, Amen.
