“And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” — John 11:26 (NKJV). This is a confrontation. "Do you believe this?" Jesus questioned Martha, looking her in the eye, the same question He poses to us today. To be clear, Jesus did not reject the bodily death that we all know. He intended for the person who believes in Him to have a life that death cannot take away from them, even if they are still alive. A life that has already moved past condemnation. An already-transcended life from death to life. "He who hears My word and believes... has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.," is how John 5:24 so eloquently puts it. Not "will have." Not "perhaps one day." Already. It's finished. This is the reality of the believer. The world fears the ticking clock and lives in a state of constant countdown. However, Christians don't race to the finish; we live on a count-up. We are maturing into our timeless blueprint.
Jesus' death was not just for our salvation. He died so that we may enter heaven. Eternal life is a new type of life, not just a longer one. a standard of living that begins the moment you decide to believe. And that life is immortal. Paul said, "It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me," in Galatians 2:20 for this reason. The life of Christ is the life of the believer. And that life never ends—it continues forever.
So how do we live this out practically?
1. Live fearlessly.
Knowing that death cannot undo you makes you not dread it. An emergency does not cause panic. You don't give up while you're sick. Your inner existence endures even if your physical body fails. Your mortal body is given life by the same Spirit that resurrected Jesus from the dead, according to Romans 8:11.
2. Live with eternity in view.
You cease clinging to temporary things when you realize that your existence is everlasting. Ysou lead a separate life. You are a generous giver. You invest in people rather than things. Your values change. You live to make an effect rather than to impress.
3. Live in joy and purpose.
Jesus did not say, "Believe in Me and survive life". According to John 10:10, he declared, "I have come that you may have life, and have it more abundantly." Even in a damaged world, that implies completeness, richness, beauty, and significance. You do more than simply exist. Every moment matters because you are carrying everlasting life in a perishable body.
A lot of Christians are still waiting for everlasting life to start after death. However, Jesus asserts that "it begins now." They have already accelerated your spirit. Your identity is locked up. Heaven is where your citizenship is. Death is now only a veil rather than a wall.
The last evidence? According to John 8:51, "I assure you that if anyone follows My word, he will never die." Jesus isn't exaggerating. Death may take away your body, but it cannot take away your God-given life. This is the secret reality he is exposing. The Christian who lives in Christ will thus never die—at least not in the sense that the world views death. The issue still stands: Do you believe this?
