A few days ago I was watching a 13 minutes video where a woman that got married at the age of fifty years was sharing her experiences, and one of the things that caused her delay according to her was her character.  Your character is the man in the mirror that you have to deal with, just as you can see yourself through the mirror; the people around you know you better through your character and attitude. 2 Thessalonians 3vs6-9.

Your character is your pattern of behavior that shows moral strength, self-discipline and of course dignity.  In other words, how you talk and your way of life is your character.  The truth is, you cannot amount to much in life without good character; even when you have a great opportunity to be in charge of wealth in life, it will be very difficult for you to maintain such wealth or success if you lack good character.  Your character is the platform for sustainable exploits and a glorious future. Your character is your lifestyle.

The Disciples were first called Christians in Antioch because people could see the reflection of who Christ Jesus is in them. They were called Christians because the people concluded that they lived their lives just like that of Jesus Christ. Acts 11vs26.

The man in the mirror (your character) will determine how far you will go in the journey of destiny; you cannot go far beyond what people are seeing in the mirror. That is the reason why you have to deal with the man in the mirror, you have to deal with the real you now before it terminates your glorious future. People have been pointing you those attitudes or behaviors which are not good and you kept saying it does not matter; arise now and work on your character before it denies you the success that is ahead.

Proverbs 23vs7 says “for as he thinketh in his heart, so is he; eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee”. The Bible passage above tells us that character is a matter of the heart. It shows that character begins in the heart before flowing out. You can not be separated from your character, whatever you are doing now is an overflow of what goes on inside of you.

If you must work and develop a Godly character, you have to work on what is going on in your heart, you have to work on the real you that is inside of you.  Working on your character requires you to work on your inner man; because that is you, the real you. Matthew 23vs26. You need to wash the inside before the outer part can be made clean.

To lack character is to be naked, to lack character is to stink, and to lack character is to be ugly. If you wear the latest designer clothes and shoes but without good character, you have no true beauty.  The beauty of the man or woman that you see in the mirror anytime you look at yourself in the mirror is a good character.  Your true clothing, your true beauty, and your true smell are your characters; that means, when you lack good character, you are walking naked.

Good character is not a gift, it is something you must consciously cultivate. You must be intentional about it so as to project good character always.

WHY THE NEED FOR GOOD CHARACTER?

  • You need a good character to secure your glorious destiny or future. This is because a lack of good character has made many young people (youths) to lose their jobs, injure their health, and destroyed good relationships, many have messed up their future because of a lack of good character. Good character will work as a stabilizer and that will stabilize your future and success. You can check the book of 1 Samuel 2vs12-36 to understand what I am saying.
  • You need a good character in order for you not to crash in the journey of success. Good character is the foundation of your future. Whatever a physical foundation can do to a building, the character can do the same to your destiny. Psalm 11vs3.

As any house built on a faulty foundation will crash so also any success built on a bad character will not last. If you must enjoy lasting success and good destiny, you must be intentional about working on good character.

  • You need a good character in order for people to know who you truly are. Many people are seen by others as a chameleon because they always change in character and attitude. To avoid being a hypocrite, you need good character.

You have to stop pretending to be who you are not because it is dangerous for you and for your success. God is watching you. Proverbs 15vs3. He knows you even when you are pretending to be someone else through your character; being a hypocrite is dangerous for you because the judgment of God is coming soon.
